KYMARA – The Ancient Forest

A Nature-Friendly Home in the Valley

Welcome to KYMARA, a Tropical Modern House Design project which means “The Ancient Forest.” This project is a special home we built just for Mr. Amir, a wildlife photographer. Our main goal was to design a beautiful, modern house that truly lives with nature, not just beside it. Therefore, this house is a perfect example of blending architecture and environment.

Client: Mr Amir KP
Location: Vettukad, Pulikkal, Kerala
Area: sqft:2600 sqft
Plot Area:  10 Cent

The KYMARA house is located in Vettukad, Pulikkal, Kerala. The area has dense trees and green plants. Mr. Amir’s house occupies a narrow piece of land, about 10 cents in size. Even so, we created a large home of 2,600 square feet on this small plot. We used a simple, open design. Specifically, this plan helps every part of the house connect easily to the beautiful outdoors.

Smart Design for Tropical Weather

First, building a house in a tropical place like Kerala means thinking about the heat and rain. Consequently, the way we built KYMARA provides an excellent example of a home that works well with the weather.

Cool Roofs: The roof is built with special slopes and big overhangs. These parts stick out far enough to give lots of shade. Thus, this keeps the walls and the inside of the house cool all day long.

Fresh Air Flow: We made sure that wind and light can flow well throughout the whole house. In addition, we used special screens called jalis. These screens have small holes. They provide filtered light and fresh air inside without letting in too much sun.

Natural Materials: The outside of the house looks clean and sharp. It uses light colors like white and soft grey. However, we added warm colors with terracotta bricks and natural wood. This blend gives the house a lovely tropical modern open plan house look.
